AI Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

As an AI Engineer Intern at DV Trading, you will join the DevOps team for a project-focused summer internship (Summer 2027) working on internal, production-adjacent tooling. You'll report to the DevOps lead and partner with internal technology teams to build generative agents and retrieval systems that improve alert response and operational decision-making across the firm.

What you'll do

• Learn the observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Alertmanager, OpenTelemetry) and prototype a generative agent that proposes structured mitigation suggestions for alerts with traceability back to queries, dashboards, or signals.
• Build and iterate on retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) over permissioned internal data sources such as runbooks, tickets, documentation, system design, network design, and postmortems to ground suggestions and Q&A in citable sources.
• Work with internal teams to improve the coverage and quality of the RAG corpus, including metadata, ownership, and freshness.
• Design how the system could execute approved remediations behind explicit guardrails and human approval, and implement only what is allowed and under review.
• Explore how additional internal, permissioned firm data can support natural language questions for engineers.
• Design and prototype agent workflows with tool use, policy boundaries, and human-in-the-loop safeguards where appropriate.
• Collaborate with platform and service teams to make observability and operational context available safely and in a governed way for agents.
• Document experiments, limitations, evaluation approaches, and safety assumptions; ship changes via Git with meaningful commit messages and merge requests.

What you bring

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, with expected graduation by Summer 2028.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools such as LLM APIs, assistants, or coding agents in real projects, preferably including building an agent with tools, orchestration, or similar functionality beyond prompt-only chat.
• Experience with RAG covering retrieval design, chunking, evaluation, grounding, or production-minded prototyping, applied to real or simulated internal and knowledge-base style data rather than only public tutorials.
• Python for prototyping and integration; comfortable consuming and creating APIs, working with JSON, and understanding YAML for configurations.
• Git workflow including branches, merge requests, and meaningful commit messages.
• Strong judgment on data handling: no secrets in prompts or logs, minimizing sensitive data exposure, and following internal policies.

Nice to have

• Linux fundamentals including shell, processes, logs, permissions, and basic troubleshooting.
• Networking basics such as DNS, TCP/HTTP/S, ports, and conceptual understanding of load balancing and Ingress.
• Kubernetes fundamentals including debugging, pods, services, and Ingress.
• Coursework or projects involving Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CI/CD, Terraform, Ansible, or cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

What we offer

• Compensation of $40.00-$50.00 per hour.
