AI Lead (F/M/*)

As an AI Lead at amber, you own the technical evolution of our AI platform-from Enterprise Search and RAG pipelines to agent-based workflows. You lead our AI Engineering team, shape the technology roadmap together with Product and leadership, and ensure our solutions run securely, scalably, and production-ready for over 400 companies across Europe.

What you'll do

• Own the technical vision and architecture of our AI platform, from in-house trained small language models, vectorization, and RAG pipelines to agent-based workflows
• Lead the AI Engineering team technically and organizationally, develop talent, and scale the team in line with our growth goals
• Translate product requirements together with Product and leadership into a clear technical roadmap, prioritizing consistently by customer value
• Ensure our systems are scalable, performant, and reliable-from model selection and evaluation through production monitoring
• Establish best practices for ML and LLM operations, code quality, testing, and deployment, and continuously improve our engineering processes
• Own security and compliance requirements in engineering, ensuring GDPR conformity, ISO 27001, and permissions awareness are core to the product
• Monitor developments in LLMs, retrieval, and agent technology, evaluate new tools, and decide what makes it into our platform
• Mentor your team as a technical sparring partner, fostering engineering excellence, giving feedback, and creating an environment where engineers grow
• Work operationally hands-on at 70-80% of your time

What you bring

• Multiple years of experience developing and operating Machine Learning or AI systems in production, ideally in SaaS or B2B environments
• Proven track record leading or building an engineering team, with experience motivating and developing technical talent and setting clear priorities
• Deep understanding of modern AI technologies: LLMs, RAG, vector databases, embeddings, and ideally agent-based architectures
• Strong software architecture and backend development skills, proficiency in Python, and familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and MLOps practices
• Strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution; operational mindset is second nature to you
• Data-driven, pragmatic technical decision-making with an eye on maintainability and scalability
• Awareness of data protection and security, with ideally some experience meeting compliance requirements in enterprise environments
• Clear and reliable communication in German and English, comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders from engineers to leadership
