Assoc/VP, Business Unit Reporting

GalaxyNew York, NY
Legal & ComplianceLead / HeadHybrid
🏖 Unlimited / flexible time off

As an Associate or Vice President of Business Unit Reporting at Galaxy, you support financial close and segment reporting for a global digital assets and data center infrastructure company. You bring accounting rigor to complex cost allocations and multi-segment expense reporting, translating data into insights that business unit leaders can act on. You operate comfortably in ambiguity within a fast-paced environment, combining strong analytical skills with the ability to bridge controllership and business stakeholders.

What you'll do

  • Support month-end and quarter-end close for corporate and business unit entities, with emphasis on expense-related account reconciliations, opex, accruals, and intercompany allocations.
  • Assist in intercompany eliminations and consolidation procedures, particularly as they relate to cost allocations between corporate and business units.
  • Partner with FP&A on monthly expense analysis and ad hoc requests by legal entity, segment, and business unit, identifying drivers of variance versus budget, forecast, and prior period.
  • Serve as the primary Controllership point of contact for business unit stakeholders, investigating expense variances, validating cost allocations, and ensuring business unit leaders understand their P&L.
  • Own segment reporting deliverables and SEC segment disclosure support, ensuring expense allocations and eliminations roll up accurately and segment financial data ties to underlying source.
  • Review capitalized costs for accuracy and proper treatment, distinguishing capitalizable spend from opex within the segment reporting framework.
  • Analyze legal entity level results for service entities, translating cost allocation methodology (rate-card, pass-through, non-controllable corporate) into clear business unit reporting.
  • Support acquisitions and internal restructures from a controllership and expense-reporting perspective, integrating new entities into the segment and allocation framework.
  • Manage and respond to audit requests related to expense reporting and segment results.
  • Leverage AI tools such as generative AI, automation platforms, and data copilots to improve productivity, decision-making, and output quality in your day-to-day work.

What you bring

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting or controllership, ideally with exposure to segment reporting or cost allocation.
  • Familiarity with maintaining books and records of a bank or financial institution.
  • Strong analytical skills, comfortable building and maintaining datasets and models in Excel, including pivot-heavy expense analysis and allocation waterfalls.
  • Experience translating cost and expense data into business-unit-friendly narratives, bridging controllership and business unit stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to innovate and implement new procedures to improve expense reporting and allocation workflows.
  • Intellectually curious self-starter, comfortable in ambiguity and a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong appetite for problem-solving in a high-growth, multi-segment business.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with both corporate finance and business unit leaders.
