Big Data Development Engineer Intern

As a Big Data Development Engineer Intern at Bybit, you'll work on an exploratory project to automate data governance and quality across a fast-growing cryptocurrency exchange serving over 80 million users. You'll apply AI and LLM techniques to governance challenges including metadata management, data quality, and semantic layers, running end-to-end implementations on real data domains and delivering quantified results.

What you'll do

• Research and benchmark industry and open-source approaches in AI and data governance, including metadata platforms, semantic layers, data quality frameworks, and NL2SQL/NL2Metric tooling, then propose best practices adapted to Bybit's tech stack.
• Build AI-assisted data model review capabilities that validate naming conventions and layering (ODS/DWD/DWS/ADS), detect duplicate and redundant models, identify unused or low-value assets through lineage, and recommend automated refactoring.
• Automatically extract and standardize metric definitions from SQL, lineage, and documentation; detect definition conflicts and redundant metric builds across reports; maintain a machine-readable semantic layer for natural language metric queries.
• Auto-generate data quality rules based on profiling and lineage; perform anomaly detection on data volume, distribution, timeliness, and schema drift; conduct root cause analysis and implement automated alert grading and remediation recommendations.
• Run at least one end-to-end implementation across governance, metrics, and quality areas, from problem definition through solution design, prototype, deployment on a real data domain, and documented quantified results.
• Produce solution designs, evaluation methodologies, and results documentation; present findings to platform and data stakeholders; deliver a reusable framework.

What you bring

• An undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Solid proficiency in SQL and Python.
• A working understanding of data warehouse fundamentals: dimensional modeling, layered architecture, metadata, and lineage.
• Hands-on experience with LLM application development: prompt engineering, RAG, Agent/tool-calling frameworks (such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or MCP), and the ability to evaluate whether an LLM system is effective.
• Structured thinking: you can distill vague governance pain points into well-defined problems with quantifiable success criteria and honestly articulate what your MVP validated and what it did not.
• Self-driven and comfortable working with ambiguity in an exploratory project with no predetermined answers.
• Fluency in Mandarin.
• Ability to read technical materials in English and clear written communication skills.
• Commitment to a minimum 3-month internship, 5 days per week on-site.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spark, Flink, Hive, or StarRocks.
• Familiarity with DataHub, OpenMetadata, Atlas, dbt, Great Expectations, Deequ, or similar metrics and semantic layer tooling.
