Blockchain & AI Software Lead Engineer (Payments), Vice President

As a Blockchain & AI Software Lead Engineer (Vice President) at MUFG, you design and build next-generation payments and treasury platforms leveraging distributed ledger technology (DLT) and artificial intelligence. You combine strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in blockchain systems and AI/ML, while understanding the control, resiliency, and regulatory expectations of enterprise payments and treasury environments.

What you'll do

• Design and develop platforms supporting real-time payments, cross-border payments, settlement, and treasury flows.
• Implement blockchain-based solutions for tokenized deposits, stablecoins, on-chain settlement, liquidity management, intraday funding optimization, and reconciliation with confirmations and auditability.
• Integrate blockchain components with core banking systems, payment engines, and treasury platforms.
• Support interoperability across traditional payment rails (ACH, RTP, wires) and digital asset rails.
• Build and maintain solutions across public, private, and permissioned blockchains such as Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, and Quorum.
• Develop and deploy smart contracts for payments, settlement logic, and asset movement using Solidity, Go, Rust, or equivalent languages.
• Design on-chain and off-chain architectures ensuring scalability, resiliency, and regulatory alignment.
• Implement secure key management, transaction signing, and access controls.
• Apply AI-driven insights to improve predictability, control, and decision-making in treasury operations.
• Build cloud-native, microservices-based platforms using modern engineering practices.
• Ensure solutions meet enterprise-grade standards for performance, resilience, observability, and scalability.
• Collaborate with architecture, treasury, payments, risk, and compliance teams to translate business requirements into technical designs.
• Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and platform governance.
• Design solutions with security-by-design principles, including encryption, identity, access management, and audit trails.
• Ensure alignment with regulatory and control frameworks such as KYC/AML, data privacy, and operational resilience.
• Partner with risk, legal, and compliance stakeholders to support regulatory readiness.

What you bring

• Strong experience in software engineering with Java, Python, Go, or similar languages.
• Hands-on experience with blockchain platforms, smart contracts, or distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of APIs, event-driven architectures, and microservices.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and data pipelines.
• Solid grounding in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot high-throughput, low-latency systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable operating in complex, evolving technology landscapes.
• Clear communication skills to bridge technology, treasury, and business stakeholders.
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and control-first thinking.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, treasury, or financial services platforms.
• Exposure to tokenized deposits, stablecoins, CBDCs, or digital settlement models.
• Knowledge of liquidity management, intraday funding, and reconciliation processes.
• Familiarity with MLOps and AI governance frameworks.
• Understanding of regulatory expectations for payments and AI in banking.
• Experience working with global, cross-functional teams.
