Blockchain Engineer

As a Blockchain Engineer at ING's Digital Asset Services organization, you design and develop scalable backend services that bridge traditional banking systems with emerging digital asset ecosystems. You combine strong Java engineering expertise with practical blockchain knowledge to build wallet management, digital asset operations, and custody workflow capabilities.

What you'll do

• Design and develop enterprise-grade backend services using Java, building APIs and microservices supporting digital asset products
• Implement blockchain-related business logic and workflows including smart contract interactions, minting and burning processes, asset transfer flows, and wallet management capabilities
• Build integrations with digital asset custody and wallet providers, and develop connectivity with blockchain infrastructure and third-party services
• Ensure high availability, security, performance, and maintainability of scalable and resilient systems aligned with banking standards
• Follow secure coding and software engineering best practices, participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions, and support compliance, audit, and security requirements
• Work within cross-functional agile teams, partnering with Architects, DevOps Engineers, Security Specialists, Product Owners, and Blockchain Operations professionals

What you bring

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution design, or architecture roles
• Strong experience with Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices Architecture
• Experience with event-driven architectures, Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar messaging technologies, SQL and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based development workflows
• Good understanding of distributed systems, system integration, API design, and scalability patterns
• Strong stakeholder management experience across business and technology domains
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, and fluent English at C1 level or above
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Experience working in Agile organizations
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
