Cryptology Expert

As a Cryptology Expert at Cryptologia, you design, analyze, and implement cryptographic algorithms and protocols for client and internal projects. You join a remote cryptologic scientific research and development laboratory focused on advanced cryptology and emerging technology, including AI and quantum, collaborating with public and private sector partners to solve cutting-edge security challenges.

What you'll do

• Conduct cryptographic research and design cryptographic primitives and protocols
• Perform security assessments of existing systems and identify vulnerabilities
• Contribute to the development of new methods for secure data storage and transmission
• Implement cryptographic libraries and optimize algorithms for performance and security
• Evaluate client requirements and recommend appropriate cryptologic solutions for consultancy engagements
• Write technical documentation and research reports
• Present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Collaborate with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams

What you bring

• Strong foundations in cryptography, number theory, and applied mathematics
• Experience designing and analyzing cryptographic primitives and protocols
• Experience with secure software development and implementation of cryptographic libraries
• Knowledge of information security principles including key management, secure communications, data protection, and threat modeling
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in cryptologic work such as C/C++, Python, Rust, or Java
• Proficiency in hardware design and co-design, including Verilog/SystemVerilog HDL and cryptographic firmware experience
• Ability to conduct rigorous research, evaluate academic and industry literature, and translate theoretical results into practical solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document methods clearly and present complex ideas to diverse audiences
• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on cryptography or information security, or equivalent practical experience
• Published work in top-tier journals
• Experience working in a laboratory or research and development environment
• Demonstrated commitment to ethical practices, confidentiality, and responsible handling of sensitive information

Nice to have

• Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations such as NIST guidelines, FIPS, and ISO security standards
• Prompt engineering and ability to create agentic workflows to implement efficiently in any language
