Engineering Manager, Data

As an Engineering Manager on the Data team at Robinhood, you will lead a team of data engineers in Toronto and drive the execution of key data initiatives that underpin the company's mission to democratize finance. You balance technical leadership with people management, spending approximately 60% of your time coaching and 40% on hands-on technical contributions such as code and architecture reviews. You will shape the roadmap for foundational data engineering work, expand the team's capabilities, and partner with Data Science, Machine Learning, Product, and Business Operations to deliver high-quality data products that power Robinhood's products globally.

What you'll do

• Lead, coach, and expand a team of 10 data engineers based in Toronto, setting high standards for execution and team growth.
• Actively participate in technical execution, including code reviews, architecture assessment, data quality evaluation, and unblocking daily technical challenges.
• Define roadmaps and execution plans for core data engineering initiatives, translating ambiguous requirements into clear engineering goals with a product management focus.
• Build a platform that makes Robinhood's data discoverable, understandable, and usable for both people and AI through semantic models, metadata, and developer tooling.
• Partner with Data Science, ML, and Business Operations teams to build and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines and foundational datasets that support product expansion and business operations.
• Drive high performance by setting clear, focused goals, giving real-time feedback, stretching top talent, and scaling impact through focus and creative problem-solving.
• Hire and retain top talent by setting a high bar, investing in onboarding, and addressing talent issues quickly and fairly.
• Create community by connecting work to purpose, removing friction while prioritizing safety, building trust and inclusion, and leading with integrity.

What you bring

• 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager, with 5+ years of prior experience as a software engineer or data engineer.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and Apache Spark, along with familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS and data technologies such as Databricks, Delta Lake, Flink, or Pinot/Druid.
• Proven ability to drive clarity in ambiguous situations, take ownership of project planning, and guide engineering execution without relying on dedicated project managers.
• A demonstrated track record of building and maintaining reliable, large-scale data pipelines and foundational datasets.
