Engineering Manager

Flow Traders is strengthening leadership across its Product Development department and hiring an Engineering Manager in London. As the firm scales, the quality of engineering management has become critical to how well teams grow, retain talent, and deliver, and this role exists to raise that bar.

Engineering Managers are accountable for planning and people leadership: project deliveries, growth, performance, culture, and hiring. You partner with technical leads who own architecture, technical direction, and hands-on execution. The two work in close partnership; neither succeeds without the other. You will be measured on the engineers you develop and the outcomes your team delivers, spending the large majority of your time leading people and managing delivery.

What you'll do

• Own the roadmap by managing priorities, planning, and sequencing work in line with company goals.
• Develop your engineers through career planning, promotions, coaching, and structured, continuous performance management.
• Plan and build the team by leading hiring, headcount planning, and resource allocation aligned with the team's roadmap and firm priorities.
• Cultivate a healthy team by actively managing culture, morale, and productivity, and addressing conflict early and constructively.
• Lead with rhythm through regular one-on-ones, clear and timely feedback, and team building investment.
• Translate technical and business requirements into clear delivery plans, identifying dependencies with other teams and risks upfront.
• Act as liaison between Engineering, Trading, and Quant teams to design and roll out new products.
• Drive delivery predictability by tracking progress against plan, managing risk and scope trade-offs, and reporting status clearly to stakeholders.
• Continuously improve delivery processes and team velocity.
• Ensure alignment by keeping your team's work connected to organisational goals and delivery timelines, collaborating closely with Tech Leads and Staff Engineers on technical direction.

What you bring

• Strong project management skills: experience building roadmaps, sequencing work, managing dependencies and risk, and driving delivery predictability in a fast-moving environment.
• A technical background sufficient to earn the respect of the engineers you manage and to engage credibly in technical discussions.
• Demonstrated experience leading, growing, and managing the performance of software engineers.
• A track record of delivering software through a team, balancing scope, quality, and timelines.
• Strong people-leadership skills: coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and building an environment in which engineers thrive.
• Sound judgment in hiring and developing talent.
• Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including experience managing cross-functional stakeholders such as Trading and Quant teams.
• Based in Amsterdam or willing to relocate.
