What security roles in crypto pay
50 salaries · our own dataMost security roles in crypto pay between $141k and $273k, with a median of $208k.
As a Fractional Head of Security & Web3 Operations at Financial Media Group, you serve as the technical bridge between leadership and external smart contract developers for a live, yield-bearing USDC protocol on the Base network. This is an advisory and retainer role suited for a mid-to-senior blockchain developer, auditor, or security engineer seeking high-level exposure and a consistent monthly retainer alongside primary commitments. Based in Singapore, you will enforce institutional-grade operational security while translating technical trade-offs into clear business language.
What you'll do
- Review pull requests, technical specifications, and milestone deliverables from external development teams, then translate technical trade-offs into plain English for commercial leadership before sign-off
- Implement, document, and maintain strict multi-signature policies using Safe across hardware wallets, backup recovery protocols, and operational signing ceremonies
- Audit and tighten end-to-end access controls for deployment pipelines, domain registrar DNS, RPC nodes, and cloud infrastructure
- Verify smart contract deployments, contract upgrades, parameter adjustments, and code on BaseScan before transaction execution
- Coordinate with external smart contract auditors, triage reported vulnerabilities, and maintain a lightweight emergency pause and recovery playbook
What you bring
- Local presence based in Singapore, available for occasional in-person working sessions
- Hands-on experience interacting with EVM contracts, Base and Optimism L2s, and DeFi primitives including ERC-20, vaults, and liquidity pools, with the ability to read Solidity code and catch logic flaws or integration bugs
- Deep familiarity with institutional custody setups such as Safe multi-signature, Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets, air-gapped signing, permission revocation, and RPC manipulation defenses
- The ability to cut through developer jargon, assess risk clearly, and explain the commercial impact of technical decisions
- 3 to 6 years in software engineering with at least 2 years focused on Web3 and smart contract security, with knowledge of how production DeFi systems fail and how to safeguard capital
- Commitment to staying current on emerging threat vectors and operational security best practices
What we offer
- Monthly advisory retainer based on an estimated 10 to 15 hours per month, with ad-hoc project bonuses for audit reviews and contract deployment sprints
