Head of AI Engineering (F/M/*)

As Head of AI Engineering at Amber, you lead the technical development of an AI platform serving over 400 companies across Europe. You own the vision and architecture spanning enterprise search, RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, and agent-based workflows. You lead and grow the AI Engineering team, translate product requirements into a technical roadmap with Product and leadership, and ensure systems are secure, scalable, and production-ready.

What you'll do

• Own the technical vision and architecture of the AI platform, from semantic search and retrieval pipelines through LLM integrations to AI agents
• Lead the AI Engineering team technically and structurally, develop it further, and build it out according to growth goals
• Translate product requirements with Product and leadership into a clear technical roadmap and prioritize consistently based on customer value
• Ensure systems are scalable, performant, and reliable, from model selection and evaluation through production monitoring
• Establish best practices for ML/LLM operations, code quality, testing, and deployment, and continuously improve engineering processes
• Own security and compliance requirements in engineering, including GDPR compliance, ISO 27001, and permissions awareness as core product features
• Monitor developments in LLMs, retrieval, and agents, evaluate new technologies, and decide what integrates into the platform
• Coach your team to technical excellence, provide feedback, and create an environment where engineers grow

What you bring

• Multiple years of experience developing and operating machine learning or AI systems in production, ideally in SaaS or B2B environments
• Proven track record leading or building an engineering team and motivating technical teams, setting priorities clearly
• Deep understanding of modern AI technologies: LLMs, RAG, vector databases, embeddings, and ideally agent-based architectures
• Strong software architecture and backend development skills, proficiency in Python, and familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and MLOps practices
• Strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution; hands-on mentality is second nature to you
• Data-driven, pragmatic technical decision-making with focus on maintainability and scalability
• Awareness of data protection and security, with ideally some experience with compliance requirements in enterprise environments
• Clear and reliable communication in German and English, confident interaction with diverse stakeholders from engineers to leadership
