Head of Design

As Head of Design at Mesh, you own the end-to-end experience of a crypto payments product serving prediction markets, exchanges, and neobanks. You design one system that abstracts away crypto's fragmentation—wallets, bridges, networks, swaps—so users see a simple mental model: pick an asset, pay, done. This is a hands-on role where you spend roughly half your time on the hardest design problems yourself, and the other half building and leading the design team.

What you'll do

• Own the complete Mesh consumer app and every merchant surface, from first impression through failure states, error recovery, and support handoffs
• Design the mental models and flows that define each merchant type's experience: deposits, swaps, bridging, fiat on-ramps, and failure recovery. You are the tiebreaker on experience questions and spend roughly half your time executing the design work itself
• Manage, coach, and grow the design team as it scales. Set the bar for design talent at Mesh and build a team that can sustain it
• Evolve design practice for the AI era. Decide how design works at Mesh—tools, workflows, the balance of prototypes to specs—and keep the function ahead of the curve
• Represent design at the executive table. Bring evidence-backed positions to roadmap and customer decisions alongside the CEO, CTO, and SVP Product

What you bring

• 8+ years in product design, including 3+ years leading designers while staying hands-on, with a portfolio of shipped consumer products at scale
• A track record designing complex systems where failure has real consequences: money movement, health, infrastructure. Your portfolio holds up under failure, not just on the happy path
• First-principles thinking. You originate the conceptual frame rather than execute it, and can explain the mental models you've authored and alternatives you rejected
• Executive influence. You have changed roadmap direction with a design argument in rooms with executives and engineering leaders
• Active use of AI in your own practice, rethinking what design work remains valuable to do by hand

• Annual base salary of $229,000-$300,000 plus equity (salary will be adjusted based on location and experience)
