As Lead of Development at Standard Chartered Bank, you shape end-to-end solutions across a portfolio of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) products and delivery teams within the DLT Center of Excellence. You partner with Group Architecture, Security Architecture, the CISO organisation, engineering leads, product owners, infrastructure teams, risk, and compliance to translate business objectives and control requirements into scalable, resilient, and production-ready solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep DLT expertise, broad enterprise technology judgement, and the ability to influence technical decisions and delivery standards across multiple teams.

What you'll do

  • Own and evolve the target-state solution approach for a portfolio of DLT products, establishing coherence across shared platforms, product-specific capabilities, integrations, and deployment environments.
  • Lead DLT system solutioning from discovery through production, including technology selection, design trade-offs, non-functional requirements, integration patterns, deployment topology, resilience, observability, scalability, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Provide technical direction across multiple engineering teams, aligning designs, identifying cross-product dependencies, promoting reusable capabilities, and resolving complex solutioning issues that span team or product boundaries.
  • Partner with Group Architecture to ensure DLT solutions align with enterprise principles, target-state technology direction, approved standards, integration patterns, and governance processes.
  • Engage Security Architecture and the CISO organisation early in the solution lifecycle to define security requirements, threat models, control designs, key-management approaches, security assurance activities, and remediation plans.
  • Prepare and present solution designs, options, decisions, risks, and exceptions to relevant design authorities and governance forums, taking accountability for obtaining required approvals.
  • Set and govern engineering standards for smart contracts, DLT platforms, APIs, cryptography, secure coding, testing, DevSecOps, observability, and operational readiness across the product portfolio.
  • Remain sufficiently hands-on to validate critical designs, lead technical spikes and proofs of concept, review high-risk implementations, and support resolution of complex production issues.
  • Collaborate with product, risk, legal, compliance, infrastructure, network, operations, and external technology partners to convert business and regulatory needs into executable technical roadmaps.
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, strengthen DLT system solutioning capability across teams, and foster a culture of technical excellence, security by design, and accountable decision-making.
  • Identify key risks based on the Group's technology and security framework, put in place appropriate controls, and measure their effectiveness.
  • Identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters collaboratively, promoting a culture of openness, trust and risk awareness.

What you bring

  • Significant experience defining target-state approaches and end-to-end solutions for complex, regulated enterprise DLT platforms, with the ability to connect business capabilities, application services, data, integration, infrastructure, and security considerations.
  • Proven ability to guide technical solutioning across multiple products and teams, manage dependencies and design trade-offs, and establish reusable patterns, shared services, and technology standards.
  • Deep hands-on experience with EVM-based blockchains, including public networks such as Ethereum and private permissioned platforms such as Quorum and Hyperledger Besu, covering provisioning, configuration, privacy, consensus, operations, and orchestration.
  • Strong experience with Solidity, Hardhat, Truffle, Web3 SDKs and frameworks, and smart-contract security tools such as Slither, Mythril, and MythX.
  • Demonstrated experience designing solutions for real-world asset tokenisation, tokenised money, cross-border payments, decentralised identity, digital asset servicing, and smart contract-based financial products.
  • Strong proficiency in Core Java, Spring Framework and Spring Boot, RESTful API design, event-driven integration, and microservice-based solutions, with the ability to define robust interfaces between DLT and enterprise systems.
  • Strong knowledge of threat modelling, secure design, identity and access management, public key infrastructure, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, digital signatures, secrets management, and enterprise-grade cryptographic key management.
  • Experience working through technology and security governance forums, documenting solution decisions, control mappings, risks and exceptions, and driving designs through review and approval with Group Architecture, Security Architecture, and CISO stakeholders.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, EKS or AKS, infrastructure automation, network and access controls, high availability, observability, and secure CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong command of software development lifecycle practices, Agile delivery, Git-based version control, issue tracking, automated testing, technical documentation, production readiness, and operational risk management.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams (Dev, DevOps, QA) through the full delivery lifecycle from ideation to implementation.
  • Comfort interacting with business users, compliance, security, and external partners, aligning technical goals with business outcomes.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver creative, robust solutions under tight deadlines and evolving requirements.
  • Clear and persuasive communication skills, translating complex technical ideas into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to coach and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework around infrastructure hosting and data management for client-facing applications, and the regulatory requirements and expectations for the Bank.
  • Masters or engineering background.
