Network Engineer - Core Infrastructure

As a Network Engineer at Kraken's Core Infrastructure team, you design, build, secure, and operate the entire network and data-center infrastructure for one of the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions. This is a hands-on, strategic role spanning four disciplines: build, secure, operate, and automate. You'll work on a dedicated team that swats operational details and automates repetitive work, with growth paths available whether you focus on hands-on build and operations early in your career or lead fabric and network design at senior levels.

What you'll do

• Design and build data centers end-to-end, including cages, racks, PDU and power, structured cabling, and hardware installation
• Deliver connectivity through circuits, dark fiber, and DIA, including carrier and vendor coordination, cross-connects, and capacity planning
• Stand up and evolve modern data-center fabrics such as Cisco ACI and HPE Juniper Apstra
• Design, implement, and defend a zero-trust, defense-in-depth network with firewalls at the center, focusing on policy, segmentation, and secure connectivity
• Implement and evolve enterprise network access controls using role-based access control, least-privilege principles, and segmentation
• Partner with Engineering and IT Security to ensure security is built in from the start and features ship securely and monitored
• Serve as a first responder to a high volume of infrastructure requests including provisioning, access, connectivity, and troubleshooting
• Monitor and maintain all physical infrastructure, cloud environments, and remote sites; respond to critical incidents to maximize uptime
• Manage and deploy infrastructure as code at scale
• Build team tooling including automation, internal utilities, and AI agents to reduce toil and scale the team
• Write high-quality policies, procedures, and technical documentation; evangelize secure-network practices and mentor at senior levels

What you bring

• 2+ years of network engineering with a security-minded approach
• Hands-on experience with firewalls such as Palo Alto Networks, PAN-OS, and Panorama
• Hands-on data-center and physical infrastructure work including racking, cabling, power, cross-connects, and hardware installation
• Working knowledge of switching (VLANs, capacity planning) and routing (OSPF, BGP, ECMP, PBR)
• Exposure to public cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid connectivity
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible, plus a code-forward mindset
• Comfort with VPN and remote-access connectivity
• A bias for automating repetitive work and a strong operational and ownership instinct
• Experience with industry-standard platforms from vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, HPE Juniper Networking, and HPE Aruba Networking
• A valid passport and ability to travel internationally as needed

Nice to have

• Data-center design and build at scale, including multi-site buildouts, carrier and circuit delivery, and capacity planning
• Data-center fabric design experience with Cisco ACI and HPE Juniper Apstra
• Deep firewall design and operations, including multi-site policy, HA clusters, and PAN-OS/Panorama at scale
• Building AI agents and developer tooling that reduce operational load, such as agentic triage and runbook automation
• Defensive security systems against internal and external threats, including IDS/IPS, security monitoring, and security testing
• Deeper public, private, and hybrid cloud experience; owning infrastructure-as-code pipelines end-to-end
