PhD Position in Formal Methods for Concurrent Cryptographic Protocols

As a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you will conduct research towards developing formal reasoning principles for concurrent cryptographic protocols. You will disseminate your results through conferences and research visits, supervise bachelor and master students, and support courses as a teaching assistant (maximum two periods per year).

  • Support courses as a teaching assistant, up to two periods per year

What you bring

  • A master's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related subject
  • Experience with functional programming such as Haskell, or proof assistants such as Rocq, Agda, or Lean
  • Good communication skills in English

Nice to have

  • Experience with cryptography, security, or concurrent programming

What we offer

  • A salary of €3,059 gross per month in the first year, increasing to €3,881 in the fourth year, on a full-time basis
  • An employment contract of initially 18 months, extendable to a total of 4 years based on sufficient progress
  • 232 hours of annual holiday leave (38-hour week) or 328 hours (40-hour week)
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
