Product Counsel, Crypto

As Product Counsel, Crypto at Figure (NASDAQ: FIGR), you will provide legal leadership for Figure Markets, a global blockchain-based marketplace platform for issuing and trading digital assets and securities. You'll advise internal teams on federal and state securities, banking, and insurance laws while helping build groundbreaking Real-World Asset digital tokens and related financial products. This role reports to a Senior Counsel in New York and is open to both in-person and remote candidates.

What you'll do

• Provide leadership in legal affairs for markets and products, offering sound advice on federal and state securities, banking, and insurance laws and rules
• Deliver day-to-day legal, business, and strategic advice to internal markets-focused teams, addressing challenges in the development and implementation of Real-World Asset digital tokens and related financial products and services
• Offer comprehensive legal guidance throughout the product life cycle, from conception through launch, operation, and eventual sunset
• Stay current on existing and changing digital assets, blockchain, securities, and technology laws and regulations to ensure compliance
• Develop and deliver forward-looking and ad hoc guidance to marketing and design teams regarding the product lifecycle
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with affiliates and ecosystem players to support effective product lifecycle management

What you bring

• 5+ years of experience practicing as outside counsel or in-house counsel for financial services firms such as mutual funds, broker-dealers, investment advisors, OTC trading businesses, or money transmitters dealing in virtual assets
• Substantial subject matter expertise in securities matters, including the Securities Act of 1933, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and Investment Company Act of 1940
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to prepare and negotiate financial agreements such as prime brokerage, trading agreements, lending, and derivatives documentation
• Deep knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements around financial markets and crypto assets, including the regulation of RWA digital assets, crypto transactions and platforms, and blockchain technology matters such as smart contracts and digital wallets in financial services
• Product counseling experience in blockchain, crypto, and securities products, with the ability to apply laws and regulations to new products and technologies and review products for compliance
• Interest in digital assets, blockchain technology, decentralized applications, and DeFi
• J.D. and membership with at least one state bar
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to own, organize, prioritize, and manage projects effectively

Nice to have

• Experience working as an examiner, attorney, or industry specialist at a regulatory agency such as the SEC or CFTC
• Experience in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Americas, Europe, Asia, Middle East
