Remote Audit Senior Manager (Digital Assets/Crypto/Exchange/Treasury/Blockchain)

As an Audit Senior Manager at BDO, you lead assurance engagements in digital assets, crypto, exchanges, treasury, and blockchain. You develop strategies to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures, advise on economic and regulatory risks, and serve as the primary technical contact for complex GAAP, GAAS, SEC, and PCAOB questions. You combine deep audit expertise with business development and team leadership across a remote role.

What you'll do

• Apply advanced knowledge of control environments to assess and validate internal control over financial reporting, and communicate improvement suggestions to management and audit committees
• Identify and delegate audit functions appropriately, supervise audit team members, review workpapers and conclusions onsite during field work, and provide on-the-job training to engagement staff
• Apply advanced GAAP knowledge to identify complex accounting issues, consult with clients on new accounting pronouncements, present alternative applications of GAAP, and draft complex financial statements with related footnote disclosures
• Review SEC filings including MD&A, financial statements, and disclosures for appropriateness in form, content, completeness, and accuracy
• Review required communications to clients and audit committees for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with firm and professional guidelines
• Review Section 404 internal control audit work to ensure completeness and compliance with firm and professional guidelines
• Ensure compliance with engagement independence requirements and consult internally as needed
• Apply advanced knowledge of GAAS and PCAOB standards in performing and supervising work, provide guidance to others, and affirm conclusions made by team members
• Communicate matters required to be reported to the audit committee and those charged with governance
• Apply efficiency tools such as statistical sampling and CAATS
• Conduct detailed reviews to ensure audits are completed in accordance with BDO assurance manual standards
• Plan the audit process and oversee execution of procedures with quality, efficiency, and completeness despite deadline pressures
• Execute proper BDO methodology including archiving procedures and Sarbanes-Oxley rules for public clients undergoing combined 404 and financial statement audits
• Define and conduct research projects using appropriate authoritative sources and research tools, prepare supporting memos, and present conclusions to review teams
• Set the tone for teamwork by supporting team members and delivering on commitments
• Supervise managers, associates, and senior associates on all projects
• Review work prepared by managers, associates, and senior associates and provide review comments
• Act as a career advisor to associates and senior associates
• Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates
• Provide verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates
• Teach and coach managers, seniors, and associates to provide on-the-job learning
• Take responsibility for business development and marketing within your area of expertise
• Maintain and develop key client relationships
• Network and develop business within your specialty
• Manage engagement profitability, including billings, collections, and maintaining team focus on productivity and efficiency
• Promote and recommend appropriate use of all BDO client service specialties and offerings, including BDO International and the BDO Alliance

What you bring

• Seven or more years of prior relevant audit experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience
• Prior significant supervisory experience
• An active licensed US CPA, recognized active international equivalent, or unique qualification as defined by BDO's Assurance Licensing Policy (if international equivalent or unique qualifications, you must obtain an active US CPA license within the timeframe defined by firm licensing requirements)
• Advanced GAAP and GAAS knowledge
• Sound working knowledge of SEC and PCAOB rules
• Strong leadership skills and ability to serve as a role model to managers and staff
• Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent people development and delegation skills, including training, instruction, engagement scheduling, and budgeting
• Executive presence and ability to serve as the primary contact for clients, prepare and present to clients and potential clients
• Excellent client development and relationship-building skills
• Excellent decision-making skills
• Ability to substantially take charge of entire simple engagements
• Ability to resolve complex accounting issues

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or statistics
• Master's degree in accountancy
• Industry expertise in one or more assurance specialty
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with assurance applications and research tools

What we offer

• Salary range for Washington DC: $160,000-$190,000
