Senior Data Engineer - Data Platform

As a Senior Data Engineer at Bitvavo, you will join the Data Platform team within our established Data domain. Bitvavo is Europe's largest digital assets exchange, with over one million users exchanging tens of billions of digital assets annually. Your mission is to build a self-service data platform that makes data a first-class product, enabling every team to build, ship, and operate data and AI products with confidence.

What you'll do

• Build and evolve a self-service Data Platform that enables teams to easily and reliably ship data pipelines, ML and AI products
• Design scalable infrastructure for data ingestion, processing, and consumption, covering batch, real-time analytics, agents, dashboards and reporting
• Empower the organization with AI-assisted tools and automation to accelerate development, reduce toil, and improve reliability across the stack
• Own and maintain secure, compliant data infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, with a strong bias toward automation over manual process
• Continuously extend the platform to support emerging use cases in machine learning and generative AI, keeping pace with how teams want to use data
• Mentor teammates by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and raising the bar on engineering excellence

What you bring

• Experience in tech companies or scale-ups, to deliver impact from Day 1
• Experience with one or more programming languages, primarily Python (Java is a plus), with strong problem-solving ability
• A strong understanding of data engineering principles, including distributed data processing, stream processing, and data storage systems
• Fluency in using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes in a cloud-first environment
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to take ownership of work end-to-end while proactively communicating with stakeholders
• A high sense of ownership and accountability, taking initiative and advocating for the long-term health of the data ecosystem

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating end-to-end ML platforms, such as feature stores, model training and serving, and experiment tracking
• Hands-on experience with stream processing frameworks such as Apache Flink
• Experience with OLAP databases or analytical query engines such as ClickHouse or Apache Trino, and open table formats such as Apache Iceberg
