Senior Data Engineer - Storage & Messaging

As a Senior Data Engineer at Bitvavo, you join the Storage and Messaging team within Platform Engineering. Bitvavo is a leading digital assets exchange in Europe with over one million users, and you'll help make our platform scalable, performant, and accessible to engineering teams building robust, secure, and compliant systems at scale.

What you'll do

• Build a self-service platform that empowers teams to develop at scale across diverse database and messaging technologies, enabling seamless and reliable development of application and data products.
• Continuously evolve the platform to support new data models and use cases, including structured and semi-structured data, stream processing, and data governance at scale.
• Build and maintain secure, scalable, and compliant data infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
• Enable data ingestion, processing, and consumption at scale, offered entirely as self-service.
• Mentor teammates by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and driving engineering excellence.

What you bring

• Experience with one or more programming languages, with Golang and Python as primary languages we use (Java is a plus).
• Strong understanding of platform engineering principles and distributed data systems.
• Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases, with understanding of data warehousing and batch/stream processing as a plus.
• Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka, including cluster operations, topic/partition design, consumer group tuning, schema registry, and stream processing with Flink.
• Fluency in infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes in a cloud-first environment.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to take ownership of work end-to-end, communicating directly with stakeholders.
• A high sense of ownership, accountability, and engineering mindset, with the initiative to advocate for the long-term health of the data ecosystem.
