Senior Engineering Manager, Core Automation (Platform)

As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Core Automation team at Coinbase, you lead engineering teams in the Compliance domain to build AI-powered operations that automate and reimagine how compliance processes work. You work across cross-functional teams to deliver customer experiences, strengthen compliance posture, and create shareholder value by applying advanced generative AI techniques, including large language models and Agentic AI, to solve complex organizational challenges.

What you'll do

• Explore and apply advanced generative AI techniques, including large language models (LLMs) and Agentic AI, to solve complex challenges across the organization.
• Partner with and influence Operations and Compliance organizations to maximize impact.
• Build and manage engineering teams in the Compliance domain to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure.
• Plan, design, develop, and test software systems and applications for software enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools.
• Design scalable systems to solve novel problems with modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible quarterly roadmap.
• Coach team members on design principles, coding standards, and AI productivity tools adoption.
• Review and ensure the security, scalability, and architectural integrity of feature designs across teams.
• Hire, train, and grow a high-performing team to build AI and ML solutions.
• Lead multiple engineering efforts in parallel while maintaining high service quality standards.
• Create and enforce processes to improve engineering quality, AI adoption, and high-impact delivery across each team member.
• Act as a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.

What you bring

• At least 10 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 5 years of engineering management experience, including 2 years managing other managers.
• Strong knowledge of what high-quality code and software engineering processes look like, and the ability to foster an environment that creates them.
• Execution focus with the ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Experience in both long-term thinking and short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on capability: you can write and review code, participate in on-call rotations, lead incidents, and troubleshoot bugs when needed.
• Passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together.

Nice to have

• Experience getting LLM-based applications to production, including measuring and improving LLM grounding to a given corpus and reducing hallucinations.
• Experience in the Customer Support, Compliance, or Financial Crimes domains.

• Annual base salary of $253,895-$298,700 USD (varies by location).
