Senior Market Data Engineer

As a Senior Market Data Engineer on Coinbase's Institutional Markets team, you'll build and operate the systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase at low latency. You'll own the feed handlers, venue connectors, and distribution layer that form the backbone of a unified trading platform for institutional clients.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data consumed by trading systems across the platform
• Drive reliability and performance improvements through observability, on-call participation, and incident response
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards on a lean team
• Partner with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities that support Coinbase's institutional trading roadmap

What you bring

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building and maintaining production low-latency systems
• Hands-on experience with at least one area of market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution)
• Proficiency in low-latency Java or C++ and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks such as Aeron or SBE
• Familiarity with venue and exchange connectivity and market data protocols including FIX, ITCH, OUCH, and multicast
• A track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production
• The ability to utilize generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality

What we offer

• Base salary of $191,250-$225,000 USD, varying by location
