Senior Protocol Engineer - Arkiv
What engineering roles in crypto pay
132 salaries · our own dataMost engineering roles in crypto pay between $148k and $252k, with a median of $205k.
As a Senior Protocol Engineer at Golem Network, you will work on Arkiv, a blockchain with queryable storage built in. You'll develop the core technology that makes Arkiv unique: the reth-based execution client, the queryable storage layer, and the smart contracts that power the network. This is a hands-on technical role where you write code daily, debug hard problems, and own significant pieces of the architecture.
What you'll do
- Develop the DB Node, a reth-based execution client with database as queryable storage
- Build and optimize the storage layer, including query optimization, TTL semantics, data pruning, and performance tuning
- Write smart contracts for bridge contracts, gas reimbursement, and account abstraction as needed
- Design and implement unit tests, integration tests, and performance engineering across the system
- Write protocol specifications and API documentation for features you build
- Review code across the protocol codebase to maintain quality standards
What you bring
- Strong production experience with Rust, comfortable with ownership, lifetimes, async, and zero-cost abstractions
- Deep foundation in data structures and algorithms, with the ability to reason about complexity, memory layout, and throughput
- Experience building demanding, efficient systems with proficiency in concurrency, memory management, and performance profiling
- Ideally, experience designing database systems, storage engines, query engines, or high-throughput data infrastructure
- Understanding of blockchain fundamentals including consensus, execution, and state management
- A testing mindset, writing tests that enable confident refactoring
Nice to have
- Contributions to reth or other Ethereum clients
- Experience designing or building database and storage systems from the ground up
- Open source contributions in relevant projects
- Solidity reading proficiency
What we offer
- Remote-first work, must be based within CET +/- 3 timezones
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
- Full-time position
About Golem Network
Golem Network is building Arkiv, a blockchain with queryable storage built in. Arkiv enables SQL-like queries against on-chain data without external indexing, solving a fundamental problem in how developers interact with blockchain data.
