Senior Software Engineer - VP

As a Senior Software Engineer - VP at Barclays, you lead the integration of technical leadership and delivery of enterprise and external system integrations for the digital asset platform. You connect the platform with core banking systems, payments, compliance, data platforms, and third-party providers, enabling seamless end-to-end digital asset processing across the enterprise and ecosystem. This role is based in Pune.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and improve software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Lead full-stack engineering delivery with hands-on expertise in Java-based microservices, APIs, and modern application architectures.
• Develop and deploy smart contracts (such as Solidity) with a strong focus on security and lifecycle management.
• Build end-to-end digital asset and tokenisation platforms, including integration with wallets, custody, and transaction signing systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing among peers.
• Implement secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Establish and maintain effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, actively contributing to the organization's technology communities to foster technical excellence and growth.
• Contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies and processes; deliver continuous improvements.
• As a subject matter expert within your discipline, guide technical direction and lead collaborative, multi-year assignments. Guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for other areas of specialisation, and train and coach less experienced specialists.
• Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
• Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
• Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
• Build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish key business objectives.

What you bring

• Strong experience leading full-stack engineering delivery, with hands-on expertise in Java-based microservices, APIs, and modern application architectures.
• Deep knowledge of DLT platforms such as Hyperledger Besu and EVM-based networks, plus blockchain architecture concepts.
• Proven experience in developing and deploying smart contracts, for example Solidity, with a strong focus on security and lifecycle management.
• Experience building end-to-end digital asset and tokenisation platforms, including integration with wallets, custody, and transaction signing systems.
• Strong understanding of scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise systems, including API design and distributed architectures.
• Deep understanding of common design patterns, software engineering fundamentals, and best practices.
• Capability to demonstrate risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of payment systems and payments processing, including domestic and international payments, instant payments, and digital assets.
• Knowledge of blockchain or distributed ledger technology such as Ethereum for secure transaction systems and how to integrate with them.
