Senior Virtualization Engineer

As a Senior Virtualization Engineer at DRW, you will help guide the design and implementation of a new OpenStack-based virtualization platform that serves the firm's trading desks, data scientists, and enterprise application teams. You will guide key architectural decisions, set engineering standards, identify and eliminate risks, and ensure optimal performance and cost-efficiency across the infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Own and improve infrastructure, processes, and standards for DRW's Virtualization platform
• Relentlessly automate repetitive manual tasks
• Design, implement, and manage OpenStack clouds, including deployment, configuration, and maintenance of OpenStack components
• Diagnose and rectify complex problems involving multiple teams related to OpenStack, including compute, storage, and networking issues
• Provide exceptional customer service to the platform's users
• Coach engineers on best practices, help investigate outages, and set a high standard for operational and technical excellence
• Troubleshoot and resolve critical production issues in a high-intensity trading environment as part of an on-call rotation

What you bring

• Expert-level proficiency in OpenStack administration
• Deep knowledge of networking, storage, Linux, and virtualization fundamentals
• Proficiency with industry-standard infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or Ansible
• Scripting and coding experience in multiple languages such as Python, Golang, or Bash
• Experience maintaining, deploying, and configuring server hardware and virtual machines
• A service-focused attitude with a focus on getting the right resources and solutions to people across teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to have evidence-based technical and operational discussions across teams
• A commitment to leading by example and cultivating technical excellence in your team members

Nice to have

• Experience with VMware ESXi
• Experience with containerization and Kubernetes
• Experience administering on-premises infrastructure
• Experience developing, deploying, and supporting full-stack web applications
• Experience with multiple programming languages in both greenfield development and legacy maintenance

What we offer

• Annual base salary of $220,000 to $280,000 depending on experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set
