Software Developer Intern/Co-op, Backend (Winter 2027)

As a Software Developer Intern in Backend at Robinhood, you'll own a meaningful project end-to-end, from initial scoping through to production. You join a high-performing team that builds and scales the services, infrastructure, and data systems behind brokerage, crypto, payments, and more. You'll work directly with experienced developers, diving deep into how the US financial system operates, and ship software that meets the correctness and scale requirements of a live financial platform.

This role is based in the Toronto, ON office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you'll do

• Own a high-impact backend project from initial scoping through launch, driving the work end-to-end
• Partner with a dedicated mentor who will guide you from onboarding through shipping, deepening your understanding of the tech stack and financial domain
• Design, build, test, and release software solutions that meet the correctness and scalability requirements of a real financial platform
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Robinhood to solve critical problems
• Maintain and scale the existing codebase using technologies such as Python/Django, Go, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Memcached, AWS, and Kubernetes

What you bring

• Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program with an expected graduation date of Winter 2027 or Spring 2028
• Strong computer science fundamentals and deep understanding of best coding practices
• Solid communication skills and an ability to drive large projects forward in a fast-paced environment
• Passion and interest in financial technology and building fintech products and services
• Prior software development experience from internships, hackathons, or personal projects
• Familiarity with Python/Django or Go, and an understanding of relational databases and transactions
