Software Development Engineer, Backend

As a Software Development Engineer, Backend at Transak, you will build and scale the APIs and services powering our global on/off ramp platform. You join a team working primarily with Node.js, MongoDB, and Redis in a microservices environment, shipping production features used by millions of users across partner applications like MetaMask, Coinbase, Ledger, and Trust Wallet. This role is ideal for an engineer with 2-5 years of experience who writes clean, well-tested code and wants to grow into owning services end-to-end while learning how we design for scale, reliability, and security in a regulated fintech environment.

What you'll do

• Build, test, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in Node.js with clean, readable, and well-documented code.
• Model data effectively in MongoDB and use Redis for caching, queues, and rate limiting.
• Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and debug and profile issues in staging and production.
• Follow secure coding practices in a compliance-sensitive domain.
• Understand the product and business context behind engineering requirements and contribute to shaping solutions, not just implementation.
• Break down tasks, give reliable estimates, and ship iteratively.
• Work with senior engineers on design and integrate feedback quickly.
• Coordinate with frontend, product, and other backend pods on shared contracts.
• Ramp up on distributed systems concepts and asynchronous communication patterns.
• Proactively improve areas of the codebase you touch.

What you bring

• 2-5 years of backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience building APIs with Node.js.
• Working experience with MongoDB and Redis.
• Exposure to microservices architecture.
• Solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and problem solving.
• Strong problem-solving ability and product thinking, able to understand the underlying user and business problem, break down ambiguous requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and propose practical solutions.
• Ability to collaborate well with the team and gel easily with others.

Nice to have

• Exposure to distributed systems complexity such as consistency, idempotency, retries, and failure handling.
• Experience with asynchronous communication, including message queues, event-driven patterns, and pub/sub.
• Understanding of frontend systems and how they consume backend APIs.
• Experience in high-growth fintech or Web3 startups.
