Software Engineer, Backend | Product Engineering - SF Only

As a Software Engineer, Backend at TRM Labs, you'll build reliable and scalable software used by investigators and agencies worldwide to trace illicit activity and disrupt crime. You'll join the Product Engineering team, designing backend APIs with deep understanding of customer experience and performance, while working on complex problems that span technical skills, project management, and cross-functional collaboration. Based in the San Francisco office, you'll work on-site at least three days per week.

What you'll do

• Work on complex engineering problems that build technical skills alongside project management and soft skills
• Develop and maintain public APIs as part of the API Product suite
• Collaborate with stakeholders to transform functional vision into a tangible roadmap with clear outcomes
• Support and enable internal business units through shared engineering services and functionalities
• Develop cross-functional relationships with stakeholders across the organization to understand and empower their mission end to end
• Design and build scalable systems, web applications, APIs, and services (backend is built in Node.js, but prior Node.js experience is not required)

What you bring

• Experience designing and building scalable systems, web applications, APIs, and services
• Understanding of storage systems such as relational databases (e.g. Postgres) and analytical databases
• Demonstrated experience understanding customer pain points and bridging their needs to technical and product requirements
• High degree of initiative and ownership, combined with the ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt quickly to change
• Exceptional ability to structure problems and identify the most critical issues to prioritize
• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing
• Experience working collaboratively in a cross-functional environment with a diverse group of people at all levels in an organization
• US citizenship required

What we offer

• Base salary range of $180,000 to $210,000 (individual pay determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location)
• Eligibility to participate in TRM's equity plan
• On-site work in San Francisco, minimum three days per week
• Weekly sprint schedule with opportunities to lead projects as a technical anchor
• On-call rotation specific to internal tools, with responsibility for triaging customer support requests from internal Slack channels
