Software Engineer - Crypto

As a Software Engineer at Alpaca, you architect, implement, and maintain the systems and services that power Alpaca Crypto, enabling millions of users to trade billions of dollars worth of assets. You join a global team of 400+ distributed across the USA, Canada, Japan, Hungary, Nigeria, Brazil, the UK, and beyond, working on institutional-grade brokerage infrastructure serving hundreds of financial institutions across 40 countries.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain Alpaca's crypto exchange and market-making systems
• Develop crypto wallet, funding, and tokenization services
• Implement backend services and web applications
• Maintain good software quality and test coverage
• Participate in code reviews
• Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs
• Be on-call to assist with engineering projects that are timely in nature

What you bring

• Knowledge of trading systems and proven experience building exchanges, market-making systems, matching engines, or other high-throughput, low-latency, regulated, fault-tolerant financial systems
• Experience building in crypto
• A BSc/MSc or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field
• Minimum 4 years of backend software development experience
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as GoLang or C/C++; our platform is based in Golang
• Experience with messaging queues and message brokers
• SQL or relational database skills
• Hands-on knowledge of Bash, Linux, and Docker

Nice to have

• Kubernetes experience or CKA/CKAD certification
• A DevOps mindset
• Experience with CI/CD
• A good understanding of the financial market
• Experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Knowledge of microservice architectures
• Knowledge of clean code principles
