Software Engineer - Data Foundation

As a Software Engineer focused on Data Foundation at Dune, you play a key role in ensuring the data platform scales to accommodate an ever-growing volume of blockchain data. You engage with large-scale distributed systems and distributed databases, designing solutions that ingest and process petabytes of data while facilitating performant SQL queries across datasets.

What you'll do

• Design and develop distributed systems in a principled way and participate in high-impact architectural decisions
• Engage in technical challenges in distributed systems, very large databases, SQL processing, data modelling, and systems performance
• Own components within the blockchain data platform such as data ingestion and decoding
• Write code mostly in Kotlin and Go with some Java and Rust, with a strong emphasis on good design and performance
• Contribute to internal developer experience by improving local test setups, integration tests, and incremental deployment processes
• Continually improve how the platform operates, including seeking opportunities to automate incident diagnosis and resolution using AI
• Work with one of the fastest engineering teams in the industry
• Build AI agents for automation into the team

What you bring

• Strong fundamental computer science knowledge and the ability to adapt to new technologies and scenarios
• An understanding of distributed system design, or the drive to learn if you are a more junior engineer
• An understanding of blockchain technology and RPC interactions
• Experience with datalakes and formats such as Parquet, Delta, and Iceberg
• Great collaboration and communication skills
• Coding experience in any JVM language and a commitment to writing well-designed, testable software
