Platform Engineering at Chainalysis provides the shared infrastructure, tooling, and developer experience that powers every engineering team. The Foundation discipline owns the substrate: cloud infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, streaming, and security primitives. We are hiring a Software Engineer II to join the Foundation team and build, improve, and operate the infrastructure primitives that every service at Chainalysis depends on. This is an infrastructure-focused individual contributor role, typically suited for someone with 3β5 years of experience, and you will report to the Senior Manager of Platform Engineering.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP using Terraform, designing modules and patterns that provision the substrate for services across the organization
- Operate and evolve multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters (EKS) serving the entire engineering organization, owning node lifecycle, upgrades, security contexts, and networking decisions
- Own the operational side of the streaming infrastructure migration from managed Kafka (MSK) to WarpStream, building and maintaining the tooling that supports it
- Contribute to platform tooling and reconcilers that underpin the platform contract model, writing Go and working with the Kubernetes API to build self-service primitives that engineering teams rely on
- Design and maintain foundational networking and security infrastructure including transit gateways, GCP interconnect, ingress, security groups, IAM policies, and IRSA
- Participate in on-call rotations and drive operational excellence by responding to infrastructure incidents, writing and improving runbooks, and feeding incident patterns back into automation
What you bring
- 3+ years of software engineering or infrastructure engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, EKS, IAM, S3, and VPC, with evidence of building and operating real infrastructure
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes in production, with experience operating or deploying workloads on K8s clusters
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, preferably Terraform (Pulumi or CloudFormation acceptable)
- Proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, or shell scripting; Go is preferred for reconciler work
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Argo, or Jenkins, plus hands-on experience with on-call and incident response
Nice to have
- Experience building Kubernetes operators or controllers, including CRDs, reconcilers, and controller-runtime library
- Familiarity with streaming infrastructure such as Kafka or WarpStream, or depth in networking such as VPCs, transit gateways, ingress controllers, DNS, and load balancing
- Experience in regulated environments such as SOC 2 or ISO-27001, or familiarity with GitOps patterns such as ArgoCD and Flux
- A passion for platform engineering as leverage, with instinct to eliminate toil and make other engineers more productive
