As a Software Engineer on Robinhood's Proactive Capabilities team, you will design, build, and scale engineering tools that empower Security Engineers, eliminate operational toil, and expand security coverage across Robinhood. The team builds novel tooling and leverages state-of-the-art automation to close critical attack paths before they can be exploited and to mitigate active threats with speed and precision. This is a creative, high-impact role where you identify high-priority security challenges, evaluate buy-vs-build opportunities, and turn one-off solutions into robust, company-wide security capabilities.
This role is based in Bellevue, WA or Menlo Park, CA, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.
What you'll do
- Build and scale flexible, reliable security tooling and services that improve visibility and expand scan coverage across Robinhood and its entities.
- Design and deploy AI agents and security automation workflows to drive proactive security risk discovery and remediation.
- Partner cross-functionally with Security Engineering and Product Engineering teams to establish secure-by-default software design patterns and paved paths.
- Participate in design and system reviews alongside Proactive Security initiatives.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to maintain high availability and reliability for critical team security services.
What you bring
- Proven software engineering fundamentals and practical system design skills, with experience building scalable, reliable microservices and tools.
- Proficiency in Go or Python, with a preference for Go.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying services in cloud environments, preferably AWS or equivalent on GCP.
- Solid foundational knowledge of containerization and Kubernetes concepts.
- Strong security domain context, including an understanding of the attacker lifecycle, application security concepts, and hands-on experience developing or integrating security tooling.
- A pragmatic, curious, and collaborative mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and independently identify high-value engineering solutions.
Nice to have
- Experience applying AI, LLMs, or agentic frameworks to solve complex security problems.
- Background in developer productivity, security automation, or toil-reduction initiatives.
- Deep Application Security (AppSec) experience, bug bounty participation, or CTF competition experience.
- Advanced Kubernetes experience or a track record of building enterprise security platforms at scale.
What we offer
- Performance-driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, and equity ownership.
- 401(k) matching.
- 100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents.
- Lifestyle wallet, a highly flexible benefits spending account for wellness, learning, and more.
- Employer-paid life and disability insurance, fertility benefits, and mental health benefits.
- Time off including company holidays, paid time off, sick time, parental leave, and more.
- Exceptional office experience with catered meals, events, and comfortable workspaces.
- Base pay range: $130,000-$195,000 USD depending on location and zone (Zone 1: Menlo Park, CA; New York, NY; Bellevue, WA; Washington, DC at $166,000-$195,000. Zone 2: Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL at $147,000-$172,000. Zone 3: Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL at $130,000-$152,000).
