As a Sr Backend Engineer at Jobs Web3, you own the systems that move real value in a stablecoin clearinghouse: mint and burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, settlement, integrations, and the APIs built on top of all of it. You join a small, scrappy team of about 10 people based in New York City, backed by a16z crypto and other excellent partners, building a clearinghouse to make stablecoins move like money, not a trading asset.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and operate core backend services behind mint and burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, and settlement pipelines.
- Integrate with banks, custody providers, stablecoin issuers, blockchains, and partner APIs, and make those dependencies safe enough for money movement.
- Build durable reconciliation and audit trails so the team always knows where money is, what happened, and whether state matches reality.
- Design secure API surfaces and own monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response for services that move real value.
- Contribute to the payments API and internal or admin surfaces where backend ownership meets customer or operations workflows.
- Identify and pursue improvements that make the core product more robust, without waiting for a fully specified ticket.
What you bring
- 5-12 years of production backend engineering experience, with services you have designed, shipped, and operated in production. The stack is TypeScript on Node.js, PostgreSQL, and GCP.
- Experience with high-value transactional systems: payments, banking integrations, fintech infrastructure, trading or exchange infrastructure, ledgering, or stablecoin and crypto infrastructure.
- A working command of distributed systems fundamentals: consistency, eventing, idempotency, retries, durable reconciliation, ordering, partial failure, and observability.
- Judgment for integrating with unreliable external systems: banks, payment rails, custody providers, issuers, or similar partner APIs.
- Experience designing secure APIs, handling secrets and access control, instrumenting services, and writing runbooks for infrastructure that moves real value.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business and compliance requirements into technical systems, and explain the tradeoffs to stakeholders across the company.
- Willingness and ability to work in person in New York City five days a week. Relocation support is available.
Nice to have
- Direct stablecoin or crypto infrastructure experience: on-chain and off-chain reconciliation, wallet or custody flows, mint and burn, chain finality, or reserve flows.
- Background at a payments or fintech company such as Stripe, Plaid, Circle, Paxos, Coinbase, Modern Treasury, or Bridge.
- Compliance-adjacent engineering experience: KYC and KYB, AML, sanctions, audit evidence, or reserve attestations.
- Ability to build or contribute to admin dashboards, API docs, or partner-facing workflows when needed.
- Experience with Temporal or TigerBeetle.
- Experience with Rust or Python.
- Enthusiasm for building and running core infrastructure with AI coding agents, and helping shape an AI-first engineering culture.
What we offer
- Competitive salary and equity
- Comprehensive insurance covering medical, dental, and vision
- Unlimited vacation
- Periodic off-sites
- Daily lunch provided
