VP/Director, Operations Technology (Middle & Back Office Systems)

GalaxyNew York, NY
OperationsLead / HeadOn-site
🏖 Unlimited / flexible time off

As VP/Director of Operations Technology at Galaxy Digital, you own and evolve the in-house middle and back office systems that power the company's trading, operations, and finance functions. You lead 2-3 teams (6-10 engineers total) while remaining deeply hands-on: writing code, reviewing pull requests, and resolving production incidents. You report to the Head of Operations Technology and represent the technology organization to senior business stakeholders across Trading, Operations, Finance, and Compliance.

What you'll do

  • Own and evolve in-house middle and back office systems by modernizing legacy platforms, redesigning architecture, and building new systems where the business needs them.
  • Work directly and daily with ops, trading, and finance users to iterate on trade booking, reconciliation, settlement, and reporting workflows, understanding their pain points and driving engineering solutions.
  • Write code, use AI coding tools, review pull requests, and engage in production issue resolution, with recent hands-on examples you can speak to in detail.
  • Lead 2-3 teams of roughly 6-10 engineers total, managing team leads while remaining deeply engaged in technical work.
  • Represent the technology organization in front of senior business stakeholders, translating business needs into architectural decisions and engineering outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance on system design, architecture, and best practices for scalable and resilient trade systems, with Java as the primary stack.
  • Partner with global leadership to align priorities, manage dependencies, and ensure consistent execution across US and Asia teams.
  • Bring structure and clarity to complex, multi-stream initiatives, with clear ownership, tracking, and communication across time zones.
  • Shape how work arrives and gets prioritized for your teams, working directly with Operations on scope, sequencing, and trade-offs.
  • Champion the adoption of AI tools such as generative AI, automation platforms, and data copilots to improve team performance and business outcomes.

What you bring

  • 13+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent in middle and back office systems at a bank, hedge fund, or comparable capital markets firm.
  • Java as your primary language and Python as a secondary language.
  • Recent, hands-on technical engagement with code you have written, pull requests you have reviewed, or production incidents you have worked.
  • Direct experience building in-house trade lifecycle systems working alongside operations users, not vendor platform ownership or implementation consulting.
  • Team management experience leading 5-15 engineers, remaining hands-on rather than managing managers.
  • Strong instincts for trade infrastructure built from real experience in trade booking, reconciliation, settlement, and reporting.
  • Exposure to more than one engineering environment or platform, demonstrating adaptability.
  • Excellent communication skills with senior non-technical business leaders, combining clarity with engineering rigor.
  • High degree of ownership, follow-through, and comfort operating with autonomy in ambiguous environments.

Nice to have

  • Experience in digital assets, DeFi, or crypto markets.
  • Familiarity with both traditional finance and emerging market infrastructures.
  • Experience scaling global engineering teams or driving operational and process maturity.
  • Exposure to trade capture and settlement systems in multi-asset environments.
  • Prior experience working in a global organization with 24/7 business operations.

What we offer

  • Base salary of $180,000-$240,000 USD, commensurate with experience and expertise.
  • Discretionary annual bonus and equity incentives as part of total compensation.
  • Flexible time off (unlimited paid vacation days).
  • 11 company-paid holidays and company-paid sick leave.
  • Company-paid health and protective benefits for employees, partners, and dependents.
  • 3% 401(k) company contribution.
  • Generous paid parental leave.
  • Free virtual coaching and counseling sessions through Headspace.
  • Opportunities to learn about the crypto industry.
  • Free daily snacks in-office.
  • Employee Resource Groups.
