As a Backend Engineer at Coins, you lead the architectural design and end-to-end development of the core cross-border payment platform. Coins is the most established crypto brand in the Philippines, trusted by more than 18 million users, and is fully regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). You'll architect systems that handle acquiring, clearing, settlement, and ledger accounting while ensuring capital security and seamless integration with international payment rails.

What you'll do

  • Lead the architectural design, end-to-end development, and performance optimization of the core cross-border payment platform, including acquiring, clearing, settlement, and ledger accounting
  • Architect robust anti-fund-loss frameworks by analyzing transaction risks and designing automated reconciliation engines, exception-handling systems, and continuous fund audits
  • Spearhead integrations with international payment rails, banking channels, local payment methods (LPMs), and credit card networks, handling complex cross-border variables including localized compliance, dynamic exchange rates (FX), and multi-currency settlement
  • Continuously optimize system infrastructure to guarantee high availability, low latency, and operational efficiency, solving critical distributed system challenges involving massive concurrency, distributed transactions, and strict data consistency
  • Partner closely with risk management, corporate finance, compliance, and product teams to drive continuous improvements in payment system stability, security, and financial compliance

What you bring

  • 5+ years of professional, hands-on Java development experience, with at least 2+ years dedicated to technical architecture and distributed system design
  • At least 2+ years of specialized experience building and maintaining payment infrastructure, with deep proficiency in the core logic, architecture, and transaction flows of cross-border payment platforms
  • A proven track record serving as lead developer or architect for the end-to-end lifecycle of a core payment platform covering acquiring, clearing, or settlement
  • A strong understanding of capital protection frameworks and practical experience diagnosing fund-loss incidents or designing automated mitigation systems such as high-speed reconciliation engines or fund audits
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a proactive approach to technical problem-solving

Nice to have

  • Prior experience handling integrations with international payment rails, banking APIs, localized payment methods (LPMs), and credit card networks

What we offer

  • Meaningful cross-functional collaborations with risk, finance, compliance, and product teams
  • Opportunities for career advancement as part of a fast-growing organization expanding beyond APAC
  • A culture that welcomes new ideas backed by data to create impact
