Backend Senior Manager

As a Backend Senior Manager at Coins, you lead the technical vision and delivery of the company's backend systems, serving 18 million users across digital currency spot and derivative trading, payment settlement, user authentication, and transaction processing. You oversee architecture design, technology selection, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of systems that must remain stable, efficient, secure, and scalable while meeting the stringent regulatory requirements of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and global standards including FATF and MiCA.

What you'll do

• Formulate the company's backend technical strategy, long-term and short-term technical roadmap, and system architecture plan aligned with business development goals (digital currency trading, payment settlement) and industry trends such as distributed systems, microservices, cloud native, and big data.
• Lead the design and optimization of core backend system architecture, determine the technical framework and technology stack (Java, Go, Python, Node.js), and decide on deployment modes (on-premises, cloud, hybrid cloud) to ensure scalability, maintainability, high availability, and security.
• Research and introduce advanced backend technologies, tools, and methodologies such as microservice architecture, containerization, CI/CD, and monitoring and alerting to improve development efficiency, system performance, and operations capabilities.
• Evaluate and select technical solutions for core business scenarios and provide technical decision support aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of backend system development, including demand review, technical design, coding development, unit testing, integration testing, UAT testing, deployment, and online operation.
• Supervise development of core backend modules including trading system, payment settlement system, user management system, asset management system, risk control system, and API gateway.
• Manage backend system iteration and maintenance work, monitor system operation status, analyze system performance data, identify and solve system bottlenecks, fix online bugs promptly, and continuously optimize performance and stability.
• Coordinate with the DevOps team to build and optimize the CI/CD pipeline, improve automation levels, reduce manual operations, and enhance deployment efficiency and stability.
• Establish and improve backend system security management, formulate security standards and specifications, and ensure the backend system meets data security, user privacy protection, and digital asset security requirements.
• Lead security development of backend systems, conduct regular security audits, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests, identify and fix security risks such as data leakage, malicious attacks, and transaction tampering.
• Ensure backend system development and operation comply with global regulatory requirements including FATF, MiCA, and local regulations, and cooperate with compliance and risk control teams on system compliance reviews and security assessments.
• Establish system disaster recovery plans and emergency response mechanisms, and conduct regular disaster recovery drills to ensure business continuity.
• Build, manage, and develop the backend development team, formulate team structure, OKRs, performance assessment standards, and talent training plans.
• Arrange daily work assignments for the team, supervise work progress, solve complex technical difficulties, and foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance technical atmosphere.
• Guide team members' professional growth, cultivate technical backbones and system architects, organize technical training and skill assessments, and build a professional backend talent pipeline.
• Manage team performance, conduct regular performance reviews, motivate team members to achieve work goals, and retain core technical talents.
• Communicate closely with product, app development, trading, compliance, risk control, and operations teams to understand business needs and coordinate backend development work.
• Coordinate with the app development team to optimize API design and interface integration, and ensure smooth interaction between backend and frontend systems.
• Cooperate with the data team to provide data support for business analysis, risk control, and decision-making, and optimize data collection, storage, and analysis processes.
• Communicate with external technical partners such as cloud service providers and security service providers to handle technical cooperation matters.
• Manage key backend development projects, formulate project plans, control project progress, cost, and quality, and identify and mitigate project risks.
• Formulate the backend development team's budget plan, control development costs, and allocate technical resources efficiently.
• Track and analyze project execution, conduct project summary and review, and continuously optimize project management processes.

What you bring

• 10+ years of backend development and management work experience, including 5+ years of senior backend team management experience.
• Deep understanding of backend development processes, system architecture design, and digital asset-related business models.
• Experience leading the development and operation of large-scale backend systems supporting high concurrency and high availability.
• Proficiency in backend development technologies and frameworks, with fluency in at least one mainstream programming language (Java, Go, Python, Node.js).
• Rich practical experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud native technologies.
• Excellent system architecture design capabilities, able to design scalable, high-availability, and secure backend architectures for core business scenarios such as high-concurrency trading systems and large-scale payment settlement systems.
• Familiarity with backend security technologies including encryption, authentication, authorization, and anti-attack measures.
• Experience building and optimizing backend security systems and familiarity with digital asset-related security compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, containerization, monitoring and alerting) and proficiency with related tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Prometheus.
• Familiarity with digital currency exchange-related business including spot trading, derivative trading, fund recharge and withdrawal, and transaction settlement.
• Ability to convert business needs into technical solutions and architecture designs.
• Excellent leadership and senior team management capabilities, able to build and lead a high-performance backend development team.
• Strong strategic thinking, decision-making capabilities, and resource integration capabilities.
• Strong technical sensitivity and learning ability, able to track industry technical trends and research advanced technologies.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Chinese and English, able to communicate effectively with senior management, cross-departmental colleagues, external partners, and team members.
• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields.

Nice to have

• Professional certifications such as PMP, CKA, CKAD, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
• Backend senior management experience in compliant digital currency exchanges, with familiarity of backend development needs and compliance requirements of digital currency trading systems.
• Experience leading backend system transformation such as monolithic architecture to microservice architecture or traditional deployment to cloud native deployment.
• Rich experience in system performance optimization and high concurrency processing.
• Experience handling large-scale backend system failures and security incidents, with proficiency in formulating emergency response plans and disaster recovery solutions.
• Familiarity with blockchain technology and digital asset underlying logic, able to optimize backend system functions and security through technical iteration.
• Prior experience in fintech, digital currency, payment, or large-scale internet financial institutions.
