Cryptocurrency Analyst

MANTECH seeks a Cryptocurrency Analyst to join the team in Sterling, VA, supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in identifying illicit financial tactics and emerging threats related to cryptocurrency and money laundering. You will conduct strategic analysis to help CBP officers and border enforcement personnel understand cryptocurrency encounters and develop targeted responses based on intelligence-driven operations.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate the relevance of data to support financial investigations, analyze performance and sensitivity, and project next steps for refinement or alternative approaches.
  • Interpret data patterns of cryptocurrency encounters from a conceptual perspective, including red flag indicators and methods used by illicit actors.
  • Work in cross-functional teams including intel analysts, OSINT analysts, federal law enforcement officers, data and visualization experts, and software developers to understand AML and cryptocurrency illegal practices and make recommendations to decision makers on threat streams.
  • Support the identification and analysis of tools used by transnational criminal organizations to obfuscate the transfer of funds.
  • Draft issue papers highlighting evolving trends in illicit actors' methods to obfuscate digital fund transfers and train field and staff personnel on identifying digital currencies and performing preliminary analysis.
  • Develop partnerships with commercial vendors to evaluate tool capabilities for identifying and tracing cryptocurrency transactions and storage entities, and determine appropriate tools and methods for specific projects.
  • Coordinate as a functioning member of a crypto working group to address cryptocurrency threats to CBP's identification of illegal fund transfers.

What you bring

  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in intelligence analysis or policy planning, with education and experience meeting one of these thresholds: HS Diploma/GED and 20+ years, AS/AA and 18+ years, BS/BA and 12+ years, MS/MA/MBA and 9+ years, or PhD/Doctorate and 7+ years.
  • Anti-money laundering (AML) experience.
  • Blockchain investigation experience.
  • Experience in cryptocurrency, including transfer of funds and concealment methods.
  • Skills in the end-to-end analytics lifecycle, including data collection, preparation, and model building, with knowledge of data wrangling, cleansing, and analytics.
  • Ability to present work to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • U.S. citizenship and a current/active TS/SCI clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain CBP Suitability prior to starting.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FinCEN Data.
  • Experience working in a law enforcement or classified intelligence analysis environment.
