Engineering Manager, Trust & Safety, Surveillance & Compliance

As Engineering Manager of Trust & Safety, Surveillance & Compliance at Polymarket, you lead the systems that keep the world's largest prediction market fair and safe. Polymarket operates as a CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse in the US. You partner closely with Trust & Safety, Surveillance, and Compliance leaders to build detection, controls, and tools that scale their policy and investigative work into production.

What you'll do

• Own identity verification and onboarding systems (KYC), including vendor integrations, decisioning logic, and edge case handling
• Build fraud and financial crime controls: payment risk checks, AML transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening
• Build trade and market surveillance that detects manipulation, wash trading, spoofing, and misuse of non-public information, and produce alerts for surveillance analysts
• Ship user protections such as deposit limits, self-exclusion, and responsible trading controls across the product
• Build case management and investigation tooling for Surveillance, Compliance, and Trust & Safety teams, with audit trails and records that meet regulated exchange requirements
• Hire and lead a team of senior engineers, set technical direction, and balance user friction against risk with good judgment

What you bring

• 8+ years in software engineering and 2+ years managing engineers
• Experience building trust and safety, integrity, fraud, risk, or surveillance systems at a company operating at meaningful scale
• Comfort working in a regulated environment and the ability to translate compliance requirements into concrete system design
• Strong data-intensive systems skills: event streams, rules engines, detection pipelines, and understanding of the tradeoffs between real-time and batch processing
• Collaboration with non-engineering partners; you work with policy, investigations, and compliance teams daily

Nice to have

• Experience at an exchange, broker, or crypto platform with trade surveillance or AML obligations
• Familiarity with surveillance and compliance vendors such as trade surveillance platforms, KYC providers, or blockchain analytics
• Applied machine learning or anomaly detection experience for fraud or abuse
• Experience across both centralized and on-chain products
