Java Backend Developer Specialist

As a Java Backend Developer Specialist at Mercado Bitcoin, you will join the trading engine team and work on the development and maintenance of high-performance distributed systems. You'll handle complex scenarios and critical environments where high performance, resilience, and low latency are fundamental.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain robust Java applications collaboratively and incrementally with team members
• Design and operate high-availability systems, focusing on resilience, low latency below milliseconds, and performance optimization in critical scenarios
• Handle complex distributed transaction scenarios, ensuring data integrity and consistency across multiple microservices
• Develop observability-oriented microservices, applying best practices for monitoring, failure anticipation, and proactive incident management
• Actively participate in ceremonies such as technical refinements, plannings, and reviews, contributing directly to architecture decisions and product strategies
• Write and maintain automated tests as part of your definition of done, ensuring quality through comprehensive test coverage

What you bring

• Consolidated experience in Java (JDK 11+) and practical experience in message-based architectures
• Knowledge of ultra-high-performance or distributed messaging systems such as Aeron, Hydra, Apache Kafka, or similar
• Solid experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL
• Mastery of WebSockets, custom protocol design, and familiarity with financial market protocols such as FIX
• Experience with high-performance binary codecs such as SBE, Protobuf, or FlatBuffers
• Mastery of Gradle for build automation and solid experience with automated testing using Cucumber under the BDD approach
• Mastery of Docker for containerization and environment management, and ease of working in a Linux environment
• Knowledge of observability, telemetry, and monitoring, including RPM, throughput, response time percentiles (50%, 95%, 99%), memory usage, CPU usage, and error rate
• Knowledge of OpenTelemetry and its paradigms, including exporters, collectors, traces, spans, and metrics

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the financial domain, including basic concepts of trading in order books, order types, fee models, and balance control rules
