OTC Trader

As an OTC Trader at Luno, you'll occupy a front-line trading seat on Luno's OTC desk in South Africa, reporting to the Head of Trading. You price, execute and risk-manage large trades for institutions, corporates and professional traders in one of the world's most active crypto-fiat markets. Sitting within the Treasury team, you'll work with the rest of the OTC desk, in-country teams and relationship managers to build a consistently profitable book.

What you'll do

• Price and quote large OTC trades for institutional customers and VIP traders, source counter-trades, and execute with speed and discipline.
• Build durable relationships with clients alongside country teams and relationship managers, focused on repeat flow rather than one-off trades.
• Manage the desk's working capital, ensuring anticipated trades are pre-funded or backed by adequate credit facilities.
• Own trade disputes end-to-end and work with Trade Operations to settle every trade cleanly.
• Execute across the book—OTC trades, counter-trades, and market counter-trades when matched flow falls through—always within approved trading strategies.
• Hedge Luno's market risk on its working capital and revenue streams, and execute revenue liquidation trades.
• Own the desk's P&L against targets and risk limits, knowing your numbers cold and able to defend every line.
• Drive development of trading strategies across crypto and FX, including OTC, hedging and revenue liquidation today, and derivatives, arbitrage and warehousing as the desk matures.
• Produce in-depth analysis of digital asset markets: trends, opportunities, risks, news, regulatory shifts and flows that move prices.
• Deliver the daily market read to the Treasury team and push your insights into decisions across Luno.
• Maintain accurate records of trades, P&L, risk and performance metrics to ensure an auditable, credible book.
• Produce regular stakeholder reporting on trading activity, performance and market insight.
• Spec improvements to Luno's trading and risk systems and shape the push into automation, helping evolve from manual execution to a scaled, systematic operation.
• Pressure-test risk frameworks and models, and make the case for changes as market dynamics shift.

What you bring

• 3–5 years of trading experience within a brokerage or sell-side OTC trading desk in crypto, FX, equities or derivatives.
• A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business Administration, Accounting or a related discipline.
• A successful OTC trading track record across more than one market.
• Ambition to grow with the desk and see this role as a step toward broader market ownership and trading leadership.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in trade execution and documentation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• A passion for crypto.

Nice to have

• Derivatives arbitrage knowledge or experience.
• An advanced degree or professional qualification such as CFA, CAIA or MBA in a related field.
