Senior Backend Engineer (Crypto)

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Tenth Revolution Group, you will develop and optimise core backend services across trading systems, digital wallets, and asset management platforms. You will play a key role in improving system performance, security, scalability, and reliability, ensuring that critical transaction workflows remain robust under high traffic and in failure scenarios.

What you'll do

• Analyse and optimise core backend services to increase throughput, reduce latency, and improve performance during peak traffic.
• Strengthen deposit and withdrawal workflows, implement security controls, and mitigate vulnerabilities that could result in financial losses.
• Design and improve idempotency, retry, and state-recovery mechanisms to prevent duplicate transactions and inconsistent order states.
• Optimise RPC, blockchain node, and third-party service integrations, handling timeouts, rate limits, service outages, and failover strategies.
• Improve task scheduling, concurrency control, and traffic protection to handle traffic spikes, message backlogs, and request timeouts.
• Implement effective monitoring, alerting, logging, and distributed tracing to identify and resolve production issues quickly.
• Participate in incident response and post-mortem reviews, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
• Conduct load testing and capacity planning, improve critical workflow testing, and support canary releases and rollback strategies to minimise deployment risks.

What you bring

• At least 4 years of backend development experience, with hands-on responsibility for production systems serving real users.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Go, Java, or Rust, with a solid understanding of concurrency models and performance optimisation.
• Experience independently developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting core backend modules.
• Good knowledge of databases, caching systems, and message queues, including practical experience with concurrent access, duplicate message consumption, data consistency, and failure recovery.
• Demonstrated experience in performance optimisation or system reliability improvement, with the ability to explain the problem, root-cause analysis, technical solution, and measurable results.
• Hands-on experience using profiling, logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing tools to troubleshoot production issues.
• Practical knowledge of common performance bottlenecks involving networking, memory, connection pools, and databases.
• Proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese.
• Willingness to relocate to Hong Kong.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Claude Code for software development and debugging, with the ability to validate AI-generated output and understand its limitations.
• Experience documenting reusable engineering workflows and domain knowledge to improve team productivity.
• Experience developing Web3 wallets, blockchain crawlers, decentralised exchanges (DEXs), or RPC services.
• Experience with trading, payment, order management, or other systems requiring high reliability and strong data consistency.
• Experience handling traffic spikes, large-scale task backlogs, or major production incidents.
• Familiarity with containerisation, automated scaling, and failure simulation or resilience testing.
