Senior Data Scientist

As a Senior Data Scientist at Bitvavo, you own end-to-end analytics and modeling problems that drive critical business decisions across growth, product, risk, and compliance. You work for a digital assets exchange that has grown to over one million users in Europe, where the speed and quality of data-driven decisions directly impact the business.

What you'll do

• Own problems end to end: frame the question with stakeholders, build the model or experiment, ship it, and monitor it in production
• Work backwards from the decision, starting with what someone needs to decide and the cost of getting it wrong, rather than starting from available data
• Stay accountable for your models once live, including monitoring, drift detection, retraining, and responding when behavior changes
• Tell senior stakeholders things they do not want to hear, including when a campaign, feature, or rule did not work
• Support teammates in growing by setting standards for causal inference, reviewing their work, and sharing knowledge
• Solve growth and causal inference problems: measure true incrementality, own the marketing mix model, and turn that into spend allocation
• Build product and personalization solutions: rank and surface relevant assets and features based on each customer's behavior and holdings
• Model markets, pricing, and execution: measure fee and spread elasticity to find the revenue-versus-volume trade-off, and improve execution quality including slippage and order routing
• Build risk and financial integrity models: model risk exposure across a volatile asset book, forecast liquidation risk, and detect reconciliation breaks across internal ledgers and on-chain data
• Detect financial crime in real time: identify account takeover, payment fraud, and mule networks using business rules and models that remain explainable and auditable

What you bring

• Strong applied experience turning messy business questions into models or measurements, including causal inference where appropriate and predictive or ranking models where it is not
• Fluency in Python and SQL, and comfort working independently rather than waiting for data to be handed to you
• A track record of models that made it into production and changed a decision, not just notebooks and slide decks
• Sound statistical judgment and the honesty to quantify and communicate uncertainty rather than hide it
• Exceptional communication skills to engage various stakeholders, derive requirements, drive discussions, and facilitate decision-making processes
• Extraordinary sense of ownership and commitment to empowerment with freedom and accountability

Nice to have

• Experience building with agentic tooling such as MCP or agent frameworks, or automation platforms like n8n
