Most research roles in crypto pay between $102k and $213k, with a median of $158k.

As a Senior Intelligence Analyst focused on Russia and Eurasia at Chainalysis, you own end-to-end attribution on how Russian and Eurasian actors use cryptocurrency to evade sanctions. You join the Global Intelligence Team, which produces the attribution data at the heart of every Chainalysis product, used by investigators, sanctions authorities, and national-security agencies worldwide. Since 2022, sanctions pressure has pushed Russian financial flows into crypto across no-KYC exchanges, OTC desks, stablecoin corridors, and ransomware infrastructure. Understanding how Russian actors adapt to sanctions pressure on-chain is one of the most consequential problems in crypto intelligence today, and you become the subject-matter expert on this domain inside Chainalysis and across the industry.

What you'll do

  • Own Russia and Eurasia attribution end to end: Russian and CIS no-KYC exchanges, OTC networks, instant swap services, sanctions-evasion infrastructure including stablecoin corridors and cross-border payment channels, Russian-linked ransomware and cybercrime financial flows, procurement networks for restricted and dual-use goods, and the broader financial infrastructure enabling Russian value movement outside the traditional financial system.
  • Lead the attribution response to Russia-related sanctions events, driving rapid, high-visibility on-chain attribution when OFAC or allied authorities designate Russian entities, actors, or infrastructure.
  • Map networks on-chain by tracing how Russian and Eurasian actors raise, move, launder, and cash out value through regional exchanges, no-KYC swaps, OTC desks, stablecoin corridors, mixers, and off-ramps, and keep that picture current as they adapt to pressure.
  • Produce finished intelligence through advisory notes, customer and partner briefings, and contributions to flagship publications such as the Crypto Crime Report that make the Russia and Eurasia crypto threat actionable.
  • Represent Chainalysis as the named external expert on Russia and Eurasia crypto threats at conferences, panels, in press engagement, and in briefings to public- and private-sector partners.
  • Help set the Russia and Eurasia collection agenda by surfacing what data you need on Russian and Eurasian networks and feeding those requirements into the team's collection process and priority intelligence requirements.
  • Translate typologies into detection by turning what you learn about Russian methods and sanctions-evasion typologies into guidance that your products and customers can operationalize.
  • Design and tune AI-driven automation that scales your analysis and the team's, and handle the hard cases automation cannot solve.
  • Raise the bar on Russia and Eurasia and sanctions-evasion tradecraft broadly, and partner closely with analysts, other subject-matter experts, data scientists, and engineers.

What you bring

  • Deep, demonstrable Russia and Eurasia expertise: real command of the Russian sanctions landscape, Russian financial infrastructure and how it has adapted to sanctions pressure, the CIS and former Soviet bloc crypto ecosystem, and/or Russian illicit-finance and procurement networks.
  • On-chain tracing ability against Russian targets: direct experience following Russian crypto activity on-chain (Russian exchanges, sanctions evasion, ransomware financial flows), or deep Russia threat-finance expertise paired with proven blockchain-tracing skill.
  • A national-security or threat-finance background from the intelligence community, Treasury/OFAC, law enforcement, the military, a think tank or research institution, or private-sector counter-threat-finance and sanctions work.
  • Regional fluency: a strong grasp of Russian and Eurasian geopolitics, the sanctions landscape, and regional financial flows.
  • Elite potential and a proven track record: exceptional aptitude, judgment, and work ethic, with a history of leading hard problems end to end and raising everyone around you.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, as this is an outward-facing expert role where your intelligence must land with analysts, customers, and senior audiences.
  • AI-forward instincts: you build automation to scale your work and others', not just use it.
  • Comfort working with data; blockchain forensics experience strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant analytic, intelligence, or threat-finance experience for a Senior hire; 8+ years and recognized domain authority for a Staff hire.

Nice to have

  • Russian language ability.
  • Direct experience with OFAC, EU, or OFSI sanctions, sanctions-evasion investigations, or the designation process.
  • A record of published research or public speaking on Russia, sanctions evasion, or crypto threat finance.
  • Familiarity with Russian and CIS exchange infrastructure, stablecoin-based sanctions evasion, ransomware financial flows, or dual-use procurement networks.
