AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - Europe timezone)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct investigations of unusual activity referrals to determine risk exposure to the company and take appropriate action, including SAR filings, account closures, or fund freezes. You work as part of the AML Investigations Team reporting to the Head of Investigation Team, with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and collaborate with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, recommendations for account closure, and freezing of funds as applicable
• Provide support to Customer Help Desk and Legal Team requests for investigative assistance
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as applicable
• Maintain and develop strong relationships and networks with peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skill sets, including understanding of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities in the space, criminals' modus operandi, and best investigative practices

What you bring

• Experience in an investigative function
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions Investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, flexible with working arrangements and hours, and confident in making delegated decisions
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
