AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - European Timezone)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct investigations into referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team, working to determine risk exposure and mitigate it through timely SAR submissions within regulatory timelines or by closing referrals with reasoned justification. You join the AML Investigations Team reporting to the Head of Investigation Team, with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and work closely with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing where applicable
• Provide support to the Customer Help Desk and Legal Team on investigative assistance requests
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as needed
• Maintain and develop strong relationships with peers across the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skills in blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activity patterns, criminal methods, and investigative best practices to protect Bitfinex against money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions violations

What you bring

• Experience in an investigative function
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, making decisions as delegated by the Head of Investigation Team or Chief Compliance Officer
