AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - European Timezone)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct investigations into referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team. You work toward timely Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) submissions within regulatory timelines or close referrals with reasoned, documented decisions. You join the AML Investigations Team reporting to the Head of Investigation Team with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and you collaborate with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing as applicable
• Provide support to the Customer Help Desk and Legal Team on investigative requests
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal counsel as needed
• Maintain and develop strong relationships with peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skill sets, including understanding of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities in crypto, criminal modus operandi, and investigative best practices

What you bring

• Experience in an investigative function
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, flexibility in working arrangements and hours, and confidence in making delegated decisions
