AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - European Timezone)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct and adjudicate referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team, working toward timely SAR submission within applicable jurisdictions or closing referrals as not suspicious with reasoned argument. You are a member of the AML Investigations Team reporting directly to the Head of Investigation Team, with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and you work closely with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, recommendations for account closure, and freezing of funds as applicable
• Provide support to the Customer Help Desk and Legal Team with requests for investigative assistance
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as required
• Maintain and develop strong relationships and networks amongst peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop and enhance your skill sets, including understanding of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities, criminal modus operandi, and best investigative practices to mitigate money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions violation risks

What you bring

• Experience in an investigative function
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, make decisions as delegated, and remain flexible regarding working arrangements and hours
