AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - European Timezone)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you will conduct and adjudicate referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team, working toward timely Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) submission within applicable jurisdictions or reasoned closure of referrals. You will be a member of the AML Investigations Team, reporting directly to the Head of Investigation Team with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and will address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks across the company's global operations.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to determine Bitfinex's risk exposure and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing where applicable
• Provide investigative support to the Customer Help Desk and Legal Team as requested
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as needed
• Maintain and develop relationships with peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously enhance your knowledge of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activity patterns, criminal methods, and investigative best practices

What you bring

• University education (preferred)
• Experience in an investigative function
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making abilities
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and confidence in making delegated decisions

Nice to have

• CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or CBP (Certified Blockchain Professional) designation
