AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - European Timezone)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct investigations into referrals of unusual activity submitted to the Compliance Team, with the goal of timely SAR submission within applicable jurisdictions or closing referrals as not suspicious. You are a member of the AML Investigations Team reporting to the Head of Investigation Team, with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and work closely with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing as applicable
• Provide investigative support to the Customer Help Desk and Legal Team as requested
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as needed
• Maintain and develop strong relationships and networks with peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skill sets including understanding of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities in the cryptocurrency space, criminals' modus operandi, and best investigative practices

What you bring

• University education
• Experience in an investigative function
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, flexible as to working arrangements and hours, and confident in making delegated decisions
