AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - LATAM)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct and adjudicate referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team, working toward timely SAR submission within applicable jurisdictions or closing referrals as not suspicious with reasoned argument. You join the AML Investigations Team reporting to the Head of Investigation Team with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and work closely with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct assigned investigations to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing where applicable
• Provide investigative support to Customer Help Desk and Legal Team requests
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as needed
• Maintain and develop strong relationships with industry peers to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skill set, including understanding of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities in crypto, criminal modus operandi, and best investigative practices

What you bring

• University education
• Experience in an investigative function
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making ability
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, flexibility with working arrangements and hours, and confidence in making delegated decisions
