AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - LATAM)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct and adjudicate referrals of unusual activity submitted to the Compliance Team, working toward timely SAR submissions within regulatory timelines or closing referrals with reasoned findings. You are a member of the AML Investigations Team, reporting directly to the Head of Investigation Team with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, and you work closely with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks across our global user base.

What you'll do

• Conduct investigations assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to assess risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing as applicable
• Provide investigative support to the Customer Help Desk and Legal Team as requested
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as necessary
• Maintain and develop strong relationships and networks among industry peers to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skill set including understanding of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activity patterns, criminal modus operandi, and investigative best practices to mitigate money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks

What you bring

• University education
• Experience in an investigative function
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, seeking guidance as required
• Flexibility with working arrangements and hours
• Confidence in making delegated decisions
